Studying on a Dependant Visa

The immediate family member (spouse and unmarried children under 18 years old) of foreign individuals who possess a valid visa for residing in Hong Kong are eligible to apply for a Dependant Visa. Each family member must provide proof of the relationship with the principal visa holder when submitting a separate application sponsored by the principal visa holder.

All dependants are eligible to study in Hong Kong without needing to apply for a separate student visa. The dependant visa allows unmarried children under the age of 18 to stay with their parents, receive quality education in Hong Kong, gain access to diverse extracurricular activities and live in a multi-cultural environment.  It is worthy to note that the dependent children can apply for all schools in Hong Kong, including Government Schools, Aided Schools, Direct Subsidy Scheme Schools, International Schools, Private Independent Schools, and other private schools.  Different curricula and learning modes are provided at different types of schools.

The duration of a dependant's stay in Hong Kong is linked to the duration of the sponsor's stay. Dependants can apply for a visa extension to complete their studies regardless of age, as long as they retain their dependent status with the principal visa holder. Dependants who have resided in Hong Kong for a continuous period of at least seven years are eligible to apply for permanent residency in Hong Kong should the criteria are met.
