About the School

Managed by St. Paul’s College Council, a body incorporated by a special ordinance of the Hong Kong government, the College continues to uphold the traditional values encompassed in our motto but at the same time maintains a progressive outlook to equip students to meet the changing needs of society. Founded in 1851 by the Anglican Church, St. Paul’s College is one of the world’s oldest Anglo-Chinese schools. The mission of the College as stated in the Ordinance is: the offering to Chinese youths of a modern, liberal education founded upon Christian principles, Protestant and Evangelical, as professed by the Sheng Kung Hui.

Standing together through 172 years of commitment nurturing talents for the future, we nurture our students to be the best of what they can be, to shine in whatever they choose to do, and to serve and lead others to make a better and more inclusive world. Students obtain knowledge from a broad range of subjects taught at the College by experienced, qualified and caring teachers devoted whole-heartedly to their profession.

The College encourages students to be bi-literate and trilingual. All lessons, except Chinese language, Chinese History, Chinese Literature, Putonghua and Life Education, are taught in English and there are a number of native-speaking English teachers to provide a language-rich environment for learning. Students in Forms 1-3 follow a balanced and rigorous curriculum which constantly engages and challenges students to prepare them for more advanced learning. In the senior secondary curriculum, students take English, Chinese, Mathematics, Citizenship and Social Development, and a school-based Common Core – Extended Study; and three electives from a wide range of subjects leading to the qualification of the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) (HKDSE). From 2018 onwards, the International Advanced Level (IAL) curriculum is also offered.
