About the School

The Japanese International School (JIS) (Japanese Section) (hereafter “The Japanese Section”) was established based on the Japanese government's policy for the education of overseas Japanese children, and an officially recognized primary school by the Hong Kong Education Bureau. The school is located in Tai Po Kau, facing the Tolo Harbor from a hilltop surrounded by greenery. The Japanese section follows the Japanese school calendar and curriculum, providing a familiar learning environment for Japanese students living in Hong Kong. The Japanese Section shares the campus with the International Section.

The curriculum in the Japanese section aligns with the Japanese educational system to ensure a seamless progression when Japanese students return to Japan. The primary language of instruction in the Japanese section is Japanese. Most teachers are also qualified teachers from Japan. To adapt and utilize the international environment in Hong Kong, English lessons are conducted for all students daily to enhance their English proficiency.

The Japanese Section also actively engages in exchange activities with neighboring local schools in Hong Kong and promotes interaction among students of different grades through cross-sectional group activities. This provides our students with diverse and enjoyable experiences of international exchange.

* Information on each school profile is compiled by Education Bureau based on voluntary contributions by the schools and their return to the annual enrolment survey conducted by Education Bureau. Any enquiries should be addressed to the schools directly.
