Hong Kong International School (HKIS) is a leading non-profit international school serving students from Reception One (pre-kindergarten) to Grade 12.
Established in 1966, HKIS provides an American-style education, grounded in the Christian faith. HKIS offers a warm and inclusive learning environment for over 3,000 students of 48 nationalities and diverse religious backgrounds. Situated adjacent to mountains and the Tai Tam Bay, HKIS boasts striking facilities that enhance the student experience.
The Lower Primary uses a play-based, Reggio Emilia inspired approach. HKIS has adopted standard frameworks from the United States for Reception 2-Grade 12. Examples include: The Common Core State Standards (CCSS) in English Language Arts and Mathematics; Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS); the College, Career and Civic Life (C3) Framework for Social Studies; and the National Coalition for Core Arts Standards (NCCAS) for Music, and Media/Visual Arts.
A student’s journey in Primary School begins with play and inquiry, fostering a love of learning. In Middle School, a strong social-emotional learning curriculum develops self-awareness and empathy. High school provides a rigorous and versatile academic program, including access to 25 Advanced Placement (AP) courses. Together with student leadership opportunities, HKIS graduates will develop the skills they need to form genuine relationships in our diverse society and make contributions to our community.
HKIS is a member of the East Asia Regional Council of Schools (EARCOS) and is fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC).
